About Kathleen

Kathleen Carey was born in 1957 in Manhattan and grew up in Larchmont, New York. She graduated in 1979 from St. Lawrence University, having spent half of her time at university in a study abroad program at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain. In 1980 she married artist Reinoud Brandt and moved to the Netherlands. Kathleen holds a Master’s degree in linguistics from the University of Amsterdam and has written or co-written over 30 English textbooks and workbooks for Dutch primary and secondary schools. Her biography of Dutch war hero George Maduro, which was published simultaneously in English (Knight Without Fear and Beyond Reproach) and Dutch (Ridder zonder vrees of blaam) by Spectrum Publishers in July 2016, was her first book for adults. Kathleen and Reinoud are the parents of three adult sons and live in a small town in North Holland with their corgis.
